Florida Destination Information
It's said that great civilizations like the ancient Egyptians and Aztecs held special ceremonies to celebrate the Sun on the solstices of each year. In Florida we do that everyday. In cities across the state, crowds gather each night, approximately two hours before the fiery ball dips below the horizon, and say goodbye to the day with the help of music, food, dancing and much more. Key West's Mallory Square is famous for its grandiose gatherings that welcome dancing pups, jugglers, masseuses, conch fritter stands and artists displaying their paintings and jewelry. The competition for performance space here makes for great shows to accompany the setting of the sun. Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach on the west coast also has a popular nightly ceremony. Here children enjoy a large playground, locals fish at the end of the pier and everyone in between dances to island or funky jazz music or silently admirers the sun from the soft sand.
